TIPS FOR SUCCESS
This page will feature tips for success from established GIS professionals. I've included a few examples below. This page is currently under construction. Check back soon for updates.
Conferences & Events"When attending conferences, make sure you review the schedule and plan out your time a few days before you arrive. You need to be strategic about how and where you spend your time. Think about topics you would like to learn more about and people you want to meet." -Rachel Kornak, GIS Manager & Instructor, University of Michigan & Penn State.
Networking"Create a list of questions you can ask that will stimulate interesting conversations. For example, think of an issue you are struggling with at work. Solicit advice from new people you meet on how they handled a similar situation. Review and revise your list of questions before attending networking events." -Rachel Kornak, GIS Manager & Instructor, University of Michigan & Penn State.
Resumes and Cover Letters"Ask the adviser in your school's career center, your academic adviser, and the peers from your field of interest to review your cover letter, resume, and portfolio for advice about improvements you can make to them." -Yi Hou, GIS Associate, ENVIRON, Ann Arbor, MI.
